So, my third month of being subscribed to birchbox has come around again, and with it has come some new and amazing treats for me to try.
Let’s start this off by saying a huge congratulations to birchbox UK for reaching 100,000 people subscribed to their service!.
So, let’s get to the box! The first thing I noticed about this box was the packaging. I’m a sucker for a brown paper package, don’t know why, anything like this, I love. Also, this months box came with this adorable little bag. I like to use my boxes to hold things, so the bag came in handy to hold my samples whilst I found a new home for the box (which now holds my acrylic paints).
Now let’s get into the really important things, the box’s contents.
The first thing I grabbed for in the box was the benefit double the lip lipstick. This is my first benefit product and I’m seriously considering Going on a shopping spree and buying everything (I mean EVERYTHING) they’ve made. This lipstick has a liner built onto it, which is such a unique and ingenious thing. This makes your lips look fuller and plumper, and all you had to do was swipe on some lipstick, what more could you want?!. The colour is beautiful, though I was a little sceptical at first, but the slightly darker liner actually helps it not look such a contrast to my skin tone. This lipstick also smells amazing, not chemically at all!. Lastly it sits well on the lips and lasts a long time too. This might be my new favourite thing.
The second item I pulled from the bag was the balance me instant lift primer. Now I wasn’t sure what this was at first, whether it was to be part of your skincare routines, or whether it was a primer for before your make up. Turns out it’s both. This cream smooths and blurs pores and expression lines, and apparently it helps to do this permanently over continual use. But this smoothing also makes a great base for makeup. The first time I used it I noticed my face looked noticeably smoother, I couldn’t notice my pores as much, and the lines by nose and mouth didn’t seem as deep. Now I don’t really have wrinkles so it’s not going to make as much difference there (though hopefully this will keep them away for a little while longer) but I did definitely notice an improvement when using this. I can definitely see myself using this in the future.
Another thing to add is that this doesn’t have a strong smell, but the smell it does have is very, natural? I find it pleasant, and I’m sure a lot of people would find it bare able if nothing else. Also I have to really try hard to get anything out of this tube, it doesn’t seem to be filled very well which is slightly disappointing as I quite like the product.
The third thing I looked at was the rituals the ritual of sakura foaming shower gel. This was probably the product I was most excited about, as my focus was on the skin on my body, not just my face. I also like the fact that this has great reviews on the birchbox website, and is only £8.50. When I got round to actually using this shower gel, I was amazed at it turning from such a thick gel to foam, it truly amused me. I love the scent of this shower gel, and it left my skin feeling beautifully soft and moisturised. I would definitely want to buy this again, it’s great for the price, and due to the foaming aspect, a little goes a long way.
Next I tried the batiste 2 in 1 dry shampoo and conditioner. I’ve tried batiste dry shampoo before, and I wasn’t expecting much different, but was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the spray doesn’t come out as a white powder. I always hated having to spend time rubbing and brushing it through my hair as it was so bright compared to my dark brown hair. The added conditioning in this spray also made my hair super shiny. The smell was lovely and it really boosted my confidence on days when I woke too early to wash my hair and had to go to work for hours. After using my current dry shampoo, and my sample, I will very much consider buying this one, it was just so easy and worked so well.
I must add that I’m not sure how good this product will be with really greasy hair, as the conditioning aspect makes hair look very shiny, and may just make the hair look greasiest. I used this more as a styling product. Luckily I can go days without washing before my hair gets greasy, but if you have oily hair it may not be a great product for you.
The last item in this months box was the caudalie vine [activ] glow activating anti – wrinkle serum. Now as I’ve already said, I don’t really have wrinkles, but I never think it’s too early to start caring and looking out for things like that, that’s why I said that it was one of my skincare worries. If nothing else I can keep these till I age a bit, or offer them to my mum (trying to be as inoffensive as possible). I have heard of caudalie before, so I was expecting great things from this cream. This first thing I noticed is the smell, it’s horrendous. I try not to breathe when applying this it’s that bad. But if you can get past the smell, the cream has a lovely smooth texture, and a little goes a very long way. The tube is filled nicely and I can see it lasting a good month or two with daily use. I don’t know how well it is at reducing the appearance of wrinkles, but hopefully it will do a good job of preventing them!.
I hope you enjoyed reading my opinions on this months birchbox, and maybe interested you in joining the suscription.
I am planning on posting a blog in a few months with follow ups of some of the products that I couldn’t properly review just after receiving them, as they work better over time. I will also post a blog about my review of birchbox as a company and subscription service, and whether I think it is worth the money, so stay tuned for that!.
But for now, I’ll see you on my next blog post! Em!xx
